Abstract

The aim of the research presented in the article was to determine the personality correlates of social competences possessed by YEC pupils. Therefore, the following standardized tools were used to meas- ure the variables - the SES Self-Esteem Scale, the SJN Overt Anxiety Scale, the KBPK locus of control questionnaire and the ART Social Skills Questionnaire. The research was conducted using the diagnos- tic survey method in 2019 on a group of 530 pupils from 12 randomly selected youth care centers in the country. The results presented in the article are part of a larger research project devoted to the psycho- social determinants of the development of social competences in the process of social rehabilitation of delinquents youth.

The obtained results indicate that the examined juveniles are characterized by high intensity of fear, low self-esteem and an external locus of control. It was found that the level of development of social competence correlates only with the sense of locus of control, while there are no statistically significant relationships with the intensity of perceived anxiety and the level of self-esteem.
