In the paper the authors try to draft the trends of contemporary education and peda-gogical thought, and to apply these conceptions for the military academies’ education in the 20thcentury and nowadays. The four pillars of education, which is: understanding the world and other people, using acquirements in practice, and self-education will be considered in the context of the specific educational situation of the future soldiers-citizens
