MAROCCO IN THE AFRICAN UNION, PART III: IN SEARCH OF A PLACE
Keywords:
Morocco, Western Sahara, Algeria, African Union, MINURSO, France, MaghrebAbstract
The success of admission to the African Union meant that Morocco began to be even more active on the international stage and decided to open more widely to Black Africa, and even join the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS), which surprised and alarmed the leading leaders of this groupings who are however reluctant to make a final decision. The wait continues to this day and is a kind of failure – so far – of Moroccan diplomacy. And besides, it seems that international politics currently favors Morocco. All the greats of this world – the USA, China, Russia, the EU – prefer to maintain the status quo in the Maghreb region and do not consider the possibility of any new opening. The content of this article also argues that in this case geopolitics and regional security show their superiority over international law. In addition, they prove that the issue of Western Sahara is the most important political issue for today's Morocco.
