Intelligence and counterintelligence are institutions the activity of which is a convenient platform for research for supporters of conspiracy theories of history, is often an element of brutal political games, but secret services are always an extremely important element of the state security system. The activity of secret services is popularized through movies or novels. Due to its sensational aspect, it provokes discussion and enables various speculations. A series of novels by Vincent V. Severski, popular on the publishing market, concerns the functioning of intelligence and counterintelligence. In his novels, there are terms probably related to the actual scope of the secret services' activities, based on a literary canvas. Similar aspects of the operation of secret services are shown in world literature. Thus, the literature on the activities of secret services can, to a large extent, realistically show the actual ways and directions of the operation of intelligence and counterintelligence.
