Publication Ethics & Malpractice Statement

Out of concern for the highest quality of published scientific articles, the Editorial Board, Thematic editors, and the Scientific Council of the "Colloquium" journal, at all stages of work with scientific texts, ensure compliance with intellectual property rights, the reliability of scientific research presented in the journal and the ethical standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). These standards set the final and indisputable rules governing the process of peer-reviewing and editing submitted scientific texts. The Editorial staff, Thematic editors, and the Scientific Council of the "Colloquium" quarterly declare that their observance is not affected by any relations with the sphere of business. In connection with the above, the following obligations are established for the parties involved in the publication process:

 

I. Obligations of Editorial office

Members of the Editorial office of the "Colloquium" journal undertake to:

1. Deciding on the publication of submitted scientific text, taking into account only their scientific value, regardless of the origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, citizenship and author’s worldview.

2. Make objective decisions about accepting scientific articles for publication and communicating them to Authors.

3. Informing on the journal's website about the rules of reviewing submitted scientific texts.

4. Maintaining full anonymity in the process of reviewing scientific texts and not disclosing the content of the peer-review to third parties.

5. Withdraw from the process of editing a scientific text if there is a conflict of interest with its Author/Authors.

6. Inform the Authors of any suggestions for changes in scientific texts, excluding copy-editing and proofreading.

In addition, the Editorial Board:

1. Implements the principles of accuracy in scientific publications and procedures for the detection of scientific misconduct, particularly the instances of plagiarism, "ghostwriting" and "guest authorship". For this purpose, we use Polish anti-plagiarism service (Plagiat.pl) and opinion of experts.

2. Introduced procedures aimed at combating the phenomenon of "ghostwriting" and "guest authorship". All authors are required to complete and sign appropriate statement.

3. After finding improper research procedure, including in particular non-compliance with copyright, withdraws the article from the publication process and strongly condemns all attempted scientific misconduct in all its forms.

4. In the case of finding research misconduct in an article already published, Editorial Board:

    - notifies the authors of original works about the situation;

    - informs people who commit scientific misconduct about finding this fact and takes legal and administrative steps;

    - retracts the text both on-line and in paper;

    - publishes, explains, withdraws content for which scientific misconduct and an apology have been found;

    - notifies the relevant authorities about the situation and, in the event that the author of the scientific misconduct was the the member of academic staff, of the Rector of his/her university.

 

II. The responsibilities of the peer-reviewers

Peer-reviewers of all scientific texts submitted to the journal "Colloquium" undertake to:

1. Reliably and objectively peer-review the scientific papers presented to them, in accordance with ethical standards and refraining from any form of unscientific criticism.

2. Make every effort to increase the scientific value of peer-reviewed scientific articles.

3. Refrain from drawing up a review if the field of the peer-reviewed scientific articles does not fall within their scientific competence and / or there is a conflict of interest between the author and the referee.

4. Inform the Editorial Board in the event of discovering any breaches of ethical standards in peer-reviewed scientific article including, above all, plagiarism and self-plagiarism.

5. Comply with confidentiality rules applicable to all information related to the reviewing process.

 

III. Obligations for authors

Authors of all scientific papers submitted to the quarterly “Colloquium” shall:

1. Provide a declaration that all data contained in scientific papers submitted by them are original and true. Authors of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the manuscript. The manuscript should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. 
Authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if they have used the work and/or words of others, that this has been appropriately cited.

2. Provide a declaration that the submitted scientific article has not been sent for peer-review as part of preparation for publication in another scientific journal. Authors should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one publisher concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.

3. Cooperate with the Editorial board of the journal in the process of information exchange regarding the review and editing of submitted scientific articles. Authors may be asked to provide the raw data in connection with the manuscript for editorial review, and should be prepared to provide public access to such data and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.

4. Disclosure of the place of the earlier publication of the scientific text, if it is in whole or in part a reprint.

5. Disclosure of funding sources for research, the results of which are presented in the submitted scientific articles.

6. Disclosure of the full list of authors of submitted scientific articles. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. In case there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included in the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the manuscript and have agreed to its submission for publication.

7. Obtaning required permission for publication other elements of the scientific article covered by copyrights (such as illustrations, photographs).

8. Reveal information about any potential conflict of interest that may arise during the process of peer-review and editing of the submitted scientific article.

9. Promptly notify the publisher and cooperate with the editor when discover a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work. It is the author’s obligation to to retract or correct the paper.

10. The Author's expression of the will to publish a scientific article in the "Colloquium" journal is tantamount to the declaration referred to in points 1 and 2.
